I Choose To Roost

If I am allowed to make such a sweeping decision,
then surely slowing down and smelling the present
is the better choice?
Surely waiting, framing the world through
a lens of intrigue and appreciation
leads to more fulfilment than the hyper,
the madcap world of growth and now,
the moment to moment life
like a pay cheque of time, being spent
with frivolity as if credit can never be returned.

I make this present, this time I am within,
the focal point and
I just peace,
I just be,
I just sing out loud, negating the me
the world wants to constrain me into,
to make me rush alongside them,
their race,
their ticker tape finish line,
not mine.

No, I say, leave me be, of course
I wish to stand still and breathe,
to marinate within the now and
try to comprehend, to toil at
a form of enlightenment that
I might obtain.
I choose to be apart,
a part of a world that if I just look
sideways enough, I can see
shimmering under the murky shadows
our casts daily.
