Loads of lightbulbs up on that sign,
that’s the name that is, in lights,
the stardom of yesteryear today
broadcasting to the world.

Starlight, starbright, make a wish
on the performance of your life,
singing from the rooftops,
dancing through the rain!

Fame is here! It calls out for
your soul, longingly, seductively,
and you levitate, on a wind of
attraction, pulled on puppet strings.

The name? The face? On that billboard?
Could be you, you know,
could be the world’s darling,
the sweetheart whom everyone knows.

At least the mask, the visible face
of celebrity is applauded, and not the
visage beneath, marred with scars
and far more depths to insecurity.

Ignore all that, sidestep the drama
and stride into the glam, the glitz,
the debonair and be the centre
of the world.
