Head Explosion

Published on

Pounding again,
vicious mockery of stillness
the veins throb like a human sub woofer,
my head the waveforms of pain,
the tide of blood pulsing with my heart
and if I just slow my roll a little,
if I just stop moving about this room,
I feel it and the beat winds down
and the bones stop moving
and the eyes grow heavy
and I patiently wait
for the moment
that I know
the thump
returns.

BOOM!
THE PAIN LURCHES BACK INTO VIEW
SCREAMS LINGER IN MY THROAT
DARING ME TO RELEASE,
PRODDING AND PUSHING AND VIOLENT.

Hands surround head while eyes shut tight
and I try again to quell the volley.
